The Challenge

Established in 1997, YC Enterprise started off tracking staff attendance the traditional way: punch cards. However overtime, they realised that punch card ribbons and cards were costly. Employees were also engaging in attendance cheating! The last straw came when they had replaced their time-card clocking machines 8 times by 2013. That’s when they decided it was time to upgrade to a biometric attendance system. 

Unfortunately, biometrics did not go too well! Their first machine had to be replaced in 2016, and the 2nd machine started facing problems in early 2021. With early machines costing over $1000 and annual maintenance and repair coming at $400, this was a sure cost burden to the business. Besides this, there were more: 

“It all came in through other expenses like frequent fingerprint sensor replacements, continuous power backup to keep it running, occasional errors in operating system, replacing 2 motherboards, setting up a dedicated PC to be connected to pull data, and having to be at the PC to check real-time attendance,” commented Mervin, YC Enterprise’s General Manager.
